Department of Design and Technology Computer Use Policy |
|
With access to people and computers worldwide, comes the availability of material that may not be considered to be of educational value. It is impossible to control all materials, and a user may discover controversial information. We believe that the valuable information and interaction available far outweigh the possibility that users may obtain material that is not consistent with the educational goals of the school.
These guidelines are provided so that students are aware of responsibilities acquired through use of the school network. In general, this requires efficient, ethical and legal use of network resources. If students violate any of these provisions, their account will be terminated and future access may be denied. In some cases, there could be further consequences such as detentions, suspension, or police involvement depending upon the infraction. Cyber-bullying will not be tolerated and is grounds for suspension or expulsion. Students are encouraged to report any suspected incidents of cyber-bullying to administration.
Acceptable Use: The use of the Internet must be in support of education and research and be consistent with the educational goals of the school. Transmission of any material in violation of any Canadian laws is prohibited.
Privileges: The use of the Internet is a privilege, not a right, and anyone using it inappropriately may have their privileges cancelled. School officials will deem what is inappropriate use, and this decision shall be final. ST. Pius X High School expects teachers to supervise student use; this may include random checks of files and/or e-mail, remote desktop viewing and periodic walk-by checking. Students using the network are consenting to this monitoring.
Responsibilities: Students are expected to abide by the generally accepted rules of Internet and network use. These include, but are not limited to, the following; * Do not use the login of another individual; do not let another individual
use your login. St. Pius X High School and the Ottawa Catholic School Board make no warranties of any kind, for the service that is provided. This includes the loss of data, and service interruptions caused by any reason. Use of the Network is done entirely at the student’s own risk. No guarantee of privacy is made.
