Worth 30% of you Final Mark

Design and code an interactive game using GameMaker. In order to obtain a level 4 at least 80% of the game must be created using code. If do not use any code you will only be able to obtain a level 2. Every line of code must be clearly documented. All sprites must be created by you!

Before beginning your game you must submit (on the CPT page of your website) a proposal which must include:

- overview of game
- description of character(s)
- description of levels
- description of scoring system
- description of lives and health

Your proposal should also include notes on programming code that will be used for different sections.

You will be required to stick to this proposal so make sure to plan your game, and to think about how you will code each idea.

The game must:

- include a 'Splash Screen' that outlines the games controls
- consist of at least 3 levels that increase in difficulty
- have a character that moves in a variety of directions
- have a counter that increments in tens
- allow three lives and conclude on the elimination of the third
- have a high score screen

- have at least three backgrounds that you have created in a graphics application
- be able to collect a 'treasure' that will give bonus points
- make use of sound effects and music
- use the random function
- make use of a health bar
- grant an additional life on arriving at a certain score
- have at least one level that appears to be 3D

Website

- your proposal
- the game's 'scenario'. The scenario will outline - the game's story - Where is the game set? - i.e. location in the universe + time - past - present or future - a building of some kind - haunted castle - a crashed UFO - a secret laboratory - How did you come to be the only 'hero' in the game? (make up an imaginative story) - What is the hero's goal in the game? Why is the hero interested in this goal?
- include your 'How to Play' documents with a 'Tips and Tricks' section
- include "Screen shots" of your game
- upload your game as a stand alone .exe (zipped) and the .gm81 file
- create a game evaluation sheet, at least 2 class members and 2 people from outside the class must test your game and complete the evaluation sheet. (Sample Sheet)

Remember …. this is your culminating task, it is a representation of what you have learned, and you will be required to complete the work on your own. Any help I provide will result in a lower final evaluation. You may not receive help from your classmates!

Start with a simple idea …. Get it working…. Add in more difficulty if time permits

The lab will be open every morning at 7:15 a.m., should you require extra time.

Evaluation:

Your final evaluation will be based on originality and degree of difficulty.
